What kind of monthly plan can I buy in america for using in the UK without paying .99 cents a minute

Like some sort of minute package monthly plan for soley UK use.

Answer:

Hi Dustin

Any American provider (T-Mobile, Cingular/ATT) that has UK roaming WILL have a VERY high cost to roam. 99c is the base fee but there could be more costs on top of the 99 cents a minute.

Your best bet is to use a local UK sim card, you would just need a Tri-Band or a Quad-Band GSM phone. If you already have this then call your provider and request the subsidy code to unlock the phone. Once unlocked and you are ready to fly, leave your current sim card at home. When you land in the UK, go to an airport shop and purchase a T-Mobile or Virgin Mobile pay as you go sim card, top it up with some credit and you are good to go. You will be given a UK phone number, ALL incoming calls are free. Local calls are cheap and in the case of Virgin Mobile, calls back to America are only 20p a minute.
